- Safe, Caring and Inclusive School Survey
WRDSB conducts a Safe, Caring and Inclusive School Survey for students, staff and parents/guardians to complete during April and May each year. This year, the survey will be open from April 3 to May 12, 2017. The survey, which has been conducted on-line for the past 4 years, includes questions about Teaching and Learning, Relationships, Safety, and School Environment.
The purpose of the Safe, Caring and Inclusive School Survey is to:
- provide information to the Board about the experiences of our students, staff and families,
- provide information to the Board to assist with decisions to expand programs and/or provide resources to help students from all cultures, faith groups and learning exceptionalities, and
- ensure that the Board continues to support learning in safe, caring and inclusive environments.
The Parent/Guardian Survey:
The parent/guardian survey is also completed online and should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. The survey is anonymous and you may choose to skip any questions or stop answering the survey at any time. To access the parent/guardian survey please go to the following link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2017SCISParent_GuardianSurvey
You can also access the survey via our school website at www.shl.wrdsb.ca
The results from the student, staff and parent/guardian surveys will be used to produce reports for our schools that will help us plan and/or revise our Safe, Caring and Inclusive School initiatives. WRDSB may also share the anonymous data with research partners from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University who will collaborate with board staff for analysis of the data. If you and/or your child choose not to participate, this will not affect his/her grades or other school outcomes in any way.
- “Sing Canada’s History” Musical Performance
It is Canada’s 150th birthday this year, and we’re celebrating at Sandhills! In honour of this important event, our school is performing a musical entitled, “Sing Canada’s History.” Each and every student from kindergarten to grade six will be an important part of our musical. Given the fact that we have such a large school community, we need to have two concerts. The students are encouraged to perform both nights if they are able. Parents are asked to only attend the concert on the night for their last name so there will be an opportunity for all parents to watch their children perform.
The first performance will be Wednesday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. for the last names beginning with the letters A-L. The second performance will be Thursday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. for the last names beginning with the letters M-Z.
Please log-in to your school day account to view information about the special t-shirts that each student will wear for these performances.
- Pre-registered Kindergarten Library Visits
If your child is pre-registered for junior kindergarten in September, you can visit the library. Pop in between 10:00am and 2:30pm any day to visit the library and take out a book. It is a great way for our newest Suns to get to know their new school.
- Popcorn and Frozen Yogurt
Each Monday at second break, popcorn and frozen yogurt will be available for sale in the main entry foyer; all proceeds will go to School Council initiatives. Butter and salt flavoured popcorn will sell for $2.00 per bag. Chocolate / vanilla swirl low fat frozen yogurt will sell for $4.00 per cup. Sales will be cash only each Monday while supplies last.
- Did you know?
You can build stamina with daily walking; over a month’s time, hikers have found a toddler can start at .09 km and build up to 3.2 km. Small children are able to reach longer distances with practice and the daily habit can expend their natural energy and lead to better sleep, greater focus, and higher school achievement. Practice walking to school to reap these benefits.
