  1. Provincial Election: Increase in Traffic

The provincial election will be taking place on Thursday, June 6th & 7th, 2018. Sandhills Public School is being used as a polling location. Please note that there may be an increase in traffic this day, and as a result parking around the school may be difficult. Please keep this in mind when planning your travel to the school on June 6th & 7th.

  1. Fun Fair on June 12th – 5:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m

Do you enjoy a petting zoo?  What about rides, games and raffles too?  Come on out to our Fun Fair fundraiser and enjoy an evening out with the family while also supporting our school’s fundraising efforts!

Rides, games, fun food and face painting will be 1-2 tickets each.  Sweet Temptations Food Truck will be there to purchase gourmet cupcakes and ice cream.  Ride/game tickets will be available to purchase at the event and are available for pre-purchase on School-Day so you can avoid the line-ups. Pre-purchased tickets will be sent home a day or two prior to the event. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event with lots of great prizes donated from local businesses.

  1. Traffic Safety

An important school safety notice was sent home with your child recently.  As a family, please review the traffic safety information and determine how your family can use active transportation to get to and from school.  We have dangerous traffic congestion around our school.  The Walking School Bus and Trailblazer programs increase the safety and fun of walking to school, find out how you can be involved.  If you must drive, check out the map for the “drive to 5” locations and make a change to show you care about the safety of our neighbourhood.

  1. WRDSB Pride Flag – Month of June

The pride flag is a celebration of diversity and a visual reminder that WRDSB welcomes and supports each and every student – regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

We believe that our schools are safe spaces for everyone that walks through our doors. Our strategic plan emphasises that the well-being for all of our students and staff are met through a focus on inclusivity. We have several policies and procedures in place that speak to our commitment to equity and inclusion. Raising the Pride flag demonstrates this commitment to our students, staff, parents, caregivers and community members.

We know that those who identify as LGBTQ+ are at higher risk for experiencing bullying and harassment. Our school board will not tolerate this kind of behavior. We will continue to create inclusive and safe spaces for anyone who enters any of our schools or buildings.

  1. Parking Lot Attendant

We are still looking for a parking lot attendant to help us do all we can to keep our parking lot safe and make sure it is being used appropriately.  If you or someone you know might be interested in this paid position, please contact Mr. Ernst at 519-744-4430 or at tom_ernst@wrdsb.ca .
