- Earth Week Celebrations – April 23 – 27
In celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd, we will have special Earth Day activities all week. We will begin on Monday, April 23rd when we will wear blue and green to show our love for the earth. On Tuesday, we will participate in a school yard clean up. Walk to and from school on Wednesday. Turn of the lights to save energy on Thursday. Bring your lunch in reusable containers and a reusable water bottle on Friday, (and everyday) to reduce waste.
The Sandhills community is coming together to collect used clothing and electronic devices you no longer need as an Earth Day initiative. There will be a bin located in the parking lot by the gym where you can place your donations from Monday April 23rd to Friday, May 4th. https://schools.wrdsb.ca/shl/files/2018/04/OES_Whats_Accepted.pdf . Thanks for your support.
- Grade Six Transition to Westheights PS
There are two important visits set up for our grade six students to get to know their new school for September. Grade six students and their parents are invited to visit the Westheights Information Night on Thursday, May 17th from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Students will return to Westheights with their teachers on June 12th from 1:00pm – 2:30pm for a student guided tour. The easiest way to make your Westheights experience awesome is to get involved! Be sure to take part in these important events to find out how to get involved!
- Safe, Caring and Inclusive School Student Survey
The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is committed to providing safe, caring and inclusive places for everyone. One way to find out how we are doing is to ask students in grades 4 to 12 about their health and well-being. Students are invited to share their feedback via a survey. All students in grades four through six will be given an opportunity to complete the survey during the week of April 22nd. Please see the School-Day announcement or letter sent home from April 18 for more information.
- Staffing Update
Please welcome Madame Juchnik (Madame J.) who will be teaching in 5F. Welcome to Sandhills!
- Lost and Found
The lost and found bin is overflowing. All items are currently displayed in front of the office. Please encourage your child(ren) to pick up lost items, also feel free stop in a take a look for yourself. Any items not claimed will be sent off to charity with the Earth Week collection.
- Festival of Trees – Volunteers Needed
The Festival of Trees is the celebration of the Forest of Reading Program that students across the province have been participating in. Waterloo Region is hosting their first ever event on May 18th at The Kitchener Auditorium. Volunteers are needed for a 6 hour shift from 8:15am – 2:30 pm, to accompany authors and illustrators around the site, help at the registration desk and support activities and workshops. Please visit http://forestfestivaloftrees.ca/volunteers/ if you are interested.
- Parking Lot Attendant Needed
We are still looking for an interested community member to serve as our parking lot attendant for 1 hour per day. This is a paid position. Please contact Mr. Ernst (tom_ernst@wrdsb.ca) or Mrs. Murovec (nancy_murovec@wrdsb.ca) if you are interested.
