  1. Earth Week Celebrations – April 23 – 27

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd, we will have special Earth Day activities all week.  We will begin on Monday, April 23rd when we will wear blue and green to show our love for the earth.  On Tuesday, we will participate in a school yard clean up.  Walk to and from school on Wednesday.  Turn of the lights to save energy on Thursday.  Bring your lunch in reusable containers and a reusable water bottle on Friday, (and everyday) to reduce waste.

The Sandhills community is coming together to collect used clothing and electronic devices you no longer need as an Earth Day initiative.  There will be a bin located in the parking lots by the gym where you can place your donations from Monday April 16th to Friday, May 4th.  Thanks for your support!

  1. Lost and Found

The lost and found bin is overflowing.  Please encourage your child(ren) to pick up lost items, also feel free stop in a take a look for yourself.  Any items not claimed will be sent off to charity with the Earth Week collection.

  1. Festival of Trees – Volunteers Needed

The Festival of Trees is the celebration of the Forest of Reading Program that students across the province have been participating in.  Waterloo Region is hosting their first ever event on May 18th at The Kitchener Auditorium.  Volunteers are needed for a 6 hour shift from 8:15am – 2:30 pm, to accompany authors and illustrators around the site, help at the registration desk and support activities and workshops.  Please visit http://forestfestivaloftrees.ca/volunteers/ if you are interested.

  1. Fun Fair

Save the Date!  School Council is hosting a Sandhills Fun Fair on Tuesday, June 12!  Many exciting things are planned including a petting zoo, games and raffle prizes!  Stay tuned for more updates.

  1. Are you moving?

Although the 2018-2019 school year seems far away, we have already been busy preparing.  At this time of year it is very important for us to have an accurate count of how many students will be attending Sandhills next year.  If you are planning on moving, please call or send a note to the office as soon as possible.

  1. Spring is the season of MUD!

The ground is beginning to thaw and we are excited to see warmer temperatures on the horizon.  Please help us keep our school shiny and clean.  Please remember as you put the winter boots away that outdoor and indoor shoes are still necessary.  On rainy days, students are encouraged to wear rain boots and splash pants to ensure that clothes stay clean and socks stay dry.  It is a great idea to tuck a change of clothes in your child’s backpack in case of a messy slip outside.
