Miss Best says she is thrilled to join the Sandhills family and is appreciative of the warm welcome she has already received. Mrs. Burhow will be working with Mrs. Jackson in K4 for the remainder of the year. Welcome Miss Best and Mrs. Burhow!
- School Council Update – Family Dance and Lamontagne Chocolate fundraiser
Mark your calendars for February 8th for our Valentine’s Family Dance. The event will run from 6-8pm featuring music by Professor Jamz, with snacks and swag available for purchase. Please note that students of all ages must be accompanied by an adult. Stay tuned for more information.
School Council will be spearheading a fundraising campaign from February 8th – 21st. Students will be invited to sell Lamontagne Belgium Chocolates. More details will be coming soon.
- Winter Walk to School Day – Wednesday, February 7th.
Join your neighbours and walk to school for Winter Walk to School Day (and every day!).
Did you know that people who walk to school are happier? A study conducted by Green Communities Canada found that students (and the parents who accompanied them) enjoyed a deeper connection to their community, nature, and other people. This connection was found to decrease stress, and to increase happiness.
- Walking School Bus Volunteers
Are you already walking to school with your children? Are you interested in helping our Walking School Bus grow? Parents interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer walker are invited to contact Mr. Ernst for more information at tom_ernst@wrdsb.ca . This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbours and serve the wonderful Sandhills community.
- Kindergarten Registration Now Open!
Children born in 2014 or new-to-school children born in 2013 are eligible to attend kindergarten in September 2018. Registration begins online, visit www.shl.wrdsb.ca and click on the Register for Kindergarten button on the left side. After the online registration is completed, call the office (519-744-4430) to book a brief appointment to finish the registration. Students already enrolled in Kindergarten do not need to register again.
- OTIP Teaching Awards
These awards recognize the excellence of our teachers in publicly funded education. There are three categories for the awards: elementary school teacher, secondary school teacher and beginning teacher in the first five years of teaching. A teacher can be nominated by anyone – teachers, students, parents or the general public. Further information is available at www.teachingawards.ca
