  1. Halloween Celebrations – October 31st

Our Kindergarten students will participate in a costume parade in first block (8:35 – 10:35).  Students in grades one through six are invited to participate in a carnival taking place during the middle block (11:15-12:45).  We recognize that not all families celebrate Halloween, therefore activities will be both Halloween and non-Halloween themed, including games, crafts and a haunted house. Students are welcome to wear costumes if they wish. Please remember that clothing or items representative of a person’s culture or religious beliefs should not be worn as another person’s costume. Scary costumes, weapon-like accessories, scary clown masks and full face masks are not appropriate for school.

  1. Pumpkin Patrol Program

We are pleased to advise you that once again, the Pumpkin Patrol will be patrolling our school and community on the evenings of Saturday October 28th, Sunday October 29th, Monday October 30th, and Tuesday October 31st.  This is the 23rd year since the program was initiated.  During these four nights, the Pumpkin Patrol will randomly visit the W.R.D.S.B. facilities as well as be a watchful eye for any problems that may occur while the children are out “trick or treating.”

  1. Spirit Wear

It is time to order your Sandhills Spirit Wear.  Order forms have been sent home last week.  Orders are due November 1st.  There are samples of items and sizes in the office.

  1. Eye See, Eye Learn Program

October is Children’s Vision Month

Most parents are unaware that up until a child turns 20, OHIP covers the cost of their annual eye exam.  That’s why Children’s Vision Month is a month dedicated to promoting eye health and eye exams to all children and their parents.

80% of learning is visual, but 1-in-4 school-aged children has a vision problem. Not to worry: Junior kindergartners are entitled to one complementary pair of glasses through the Eye See…Eye Learn program. Book an appointment with your local participating optometrist today and visit www.EyeSeeEyeLearn.ca for more information.

  1. Random Acts of Kindness Day – November 3rd

Since 2008, Random Act of Kindness Day® has brought Kitchener-Waterloo and other Canadian communities together by engaging citizens in small acts of kindness and generosity.  The message is simple; do something nice for someone and ask nothing in return other than they do something nice for someone else. Part of the beauty of the initiative is that it doesn’t have to cost a cent. Holding a door open, words of thanks and encouragement, telling someone they’ve done a good job – these are the kinds of acts that citizens ‘pay forward’ on this special day.

  1. Extended Day Program during Winter Break

W.R.D.S.B. winter break December 25th, 2017 – January 5th, 2018.  The extended day program will NOT run December 25th – January 1st.  The program WILL run January 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Families not using the Extended Day Program during Winter Break should indicate their schedule change by logging onto your One List account at wrdsb.on.ca/beforeafter by or before December 19th, 2017.
