  1. Dismissal Time Safety

Throughout the school day, children are often outside in our school yard during Nutrition Breaks and during Kindergarten Outdoor Learning times.  We ask that you do not enter the school yard when students are outside playing.  This is a time for children to interact with their friends and for teachers to engage students in the purposeful activities and play that are important parts of our learning programs.

There is also a safety concern when parents/guardians/caregivers enter the school yard during outdoor activity time.  Not all teachers may know who is a parent/caregiver and who is not.  Children also get distracted from their routines and may run out of line or away from their class and teacher.

The entry of parents/guardians into the school yard has meant that many classes have had to shorten their outdoor learning time or refrain from participating in outdoor learning time at the end of the day in order to keep their students safe.

Please refrain at the side or front of the school until all the students have re-entered the school or are ready for dismissal.  Thank you for your support in ensuring student safety and helping us maximize our outdoor learning time.

  1. Dance Performance

On Monday, November 14, our kindergarten and primary students will be invited to watch a performance from Carousel Dance School.

  1. P.A. Day – November 18th & Parent / Teacher Interviews

Staff will be working on school improvement planning in the morning.  The afternoon will be a time for Parent-Teacher interviews regarding the progress reports.  This year, interviews will be booked through School-Day.  Log in to your School-Day account to book your interview time.  If your child’s teacher is using an alternate method to schedule interviews, you will have received a notice home with your child.

  1. Volunteers in the School

Volunteers are a wonderful way to promote parent and community engagement.  Thanks to all of those families who volunteer in our school or on off campus events to support staff, students and the school as a whole.  Waterloo Region District School Board policy dictates that volunteers need to submit a Police Vulnerable Sector Check to the school when they are supervising students that are NOT in the proximity of a teacher (i.e. on a field trip where they have their own group and are walking around a museum, park, etc.), or as requested by the Principal depending on the volunteer role.  Please see the office for a letter to receive a reduced fee for obtaining the Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
