  1. Terry Fox Run

Terry’s Marathon of Hope took place in 1980 with the simple objective of informing Canadians of the importance of finding a cure for cancer. With fierce determination, he ran an average of 42 kilometres (26 miles) every day for 143 days. Terry was forced to end his run on September 1, 1980 when the cancer spread to his lungs.

In conjunction with Sandhills’ YELLOW AND BLUE Spirit Day, our students will participate in the TERRY FOX RUN.  For the past 5 years, Sandhills has participated in this fun run with the goal of raising funds for cancer research.  Starting on Monday September 25th, students are encouraged to bring a “Toonie for Terry”. Help us make this a “fantastic, terrific” fundraising day!

  1. Strong Start Volunteers Needed!

Letters, Sounds and Words™ is a 10-week program that targets children in Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1 who need a literacy boost. They are paired with trained community volunteers who go into schools to work one to one with them, playing carefully designed games and activities. The Letters, Sounds and Words program is unique as it was designed to be easily implemented by volunteers in schools, including those with little to no previous experience working with children.  If you are interested in volunteering for the Strong Start Program at Sandhills please contact Mrs. Churchill (andrea_churchill@wrdsb.ca) or Mrs. Bible (jeannette_bible@wrdsb.ca).

  1. Parking Lot Attendant Needed

We are looking to hire a parking lot attendant for a 30 minute shift in the morning and in the afternoon.  This is a paid position.  The morning shift would be from 8:15 am until 8:45 am.  The afternoon shift would be from 2:45 pm until 3:15 pm.  If you are interested in applying for this job, please email nancy_murovec@wrdsb.ca.

  1. New Fundraising Initiative

This year Sandhills School Council is excited to share a new fundraising initiative through LoyaltyFunding, an organization that sells gift cards from a variety of grocery stores, coffee shops, pharmacies, and gas stations, etc – retailers you probably already regularly use, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to Sandhills with no additional cost to you. You can do one time gift card purchases, or monthly subscriptions with no monthly order minimums.

You can learn more and order through their website https://www.loyaltyfunding.ca/sandhills.  There is also an app available wherever you get your apps by searching “LoyaltyFunding.” If you are using your mobile device you can get your gift cards digitally, so you don’t have to worry about misplacing your gift card – you simply scan through your mobile device.

Thank you for your continued support of fundraising efforts to support all students of Sandhills.
