September 1, 2017 – Weekly School-Day Update
Principal’s Welcome
Bienvenue and Greetings to the Sandhills Elementary School Community,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the families of the Sandhills Elementary School community. I am Nancy Murovec and I will be your principal for this upcoming school year. I have been with the Waterloo Regional District School Board for over 25 years and have assumed a variety of different roles and teaching assignments during this period. I believe very strongly in the home-school relationship and feel that we are all partners in each and every student’s learning journey.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new students and families as well as to all of our returning students. This is a very exciting time for us as we make preparations to ensure that the learning journey will be successful for everyone. The teachers at Sandhills Elementary School and I are expecting an excellent year working with students and parents! Staff have been working diligently to ensure that the school and classrooms are prepared for fun and learning.
My personal goal is to meet and to get to know all of the families that make up our school community over the course of the year. Should you have any questions or concerns at any time, please know that you can contact me directly by calling the school at 519-744-4430.
Committed to your child’s success,
Nancy Murovec
Principal

A variety of important factors are considered when assigning students to classes, including but not limited to student learning needs and styles, student social and emotional considerations, class sizes and available classroom supports. We are confident that we have considered your student’s best interests when placing them in their class for the 2017-2018 school year.
- First Day Procedures
On Tuesday morning, all students in grades one through six should gather on the tarmac at the back of the school where they will be greeted by their classroom teacher. Grade one students and their parent / caregiver will proceed to the foyer for a short information session.

Lots of information will be sent home with your student in the first days of school. Please review it and kindly return the Data Verification Form (white sheet), The Permission of Student Personal Information Form (blue sheet), The Consent for Ongoing Off-Campus Activities Form (white sheet) and any important medical information by Wednesday, September 13th, 2016.
- Staffing Updates
We wish a sunny Sandhills welcome to Mrs. M. Marschall who has joined our teaching staff and will be teaching grade 6. Ms. M. Reay is happily welcomed into our team of Educational Assistants. Ms. D. White will be joining Mr. Wilson as a Teaching Education Candidate from Laurier University.
- Attendance Line Changes
Please be reminded to call the attendance line if your child will be late or absent from school due to appointments or illness. Due to some upgrades to the W.R.D.S.B. phone system, you can now reach the attendance line in two ways. Call 519-570-8125 and leave a message, this is the same number but the extension is no longer necessary. Call the school’s main number 519-744-4430 and select option 1 to reach the attendance voicemail box.
Please do not leave attendance messages on the teacher’s voicemail.
Unfortunately, emailing shl_attendance@wrdsb.on.ca is no longer available.
