SPIRIT WEAR SALES OPEN ON TUESDAY!  DON’T MISS OUT!

DEADLINE FOR SPIRIT WEAR IS 31st October 2019

Sandhills is proud to announce that students, parents/caregivers/families and staff will have the opportunity to purchase Sandhills’ branded spirit wear.

We have taken considerable time to ensure that our spirit wear is of good quality and perfect for the whole family. Items for purchase will include hoodies, baseball shirts, t-shirts, sports pants, golf shirts, toques, baseball caps and sweatpants to name but a few. As if that wasn’t enough, we are also including the opportunity to have your child’s first or last name placed on the back (bottom) of your spirit wear t-shirt or pullover/hoodie. Follow the instructions in the attached link. This is optional and will incur a small charge of $5.00.

Ordering is easy with a direct link to our supplier. The deadline for Spirit Wear is Thursday, 31st Oct 2019.

SANDHILLS SUNS Club Store

In addition, we are proud to announce that our fantastic Grade 6 graduates will have the chance to purchase a T-shirt and/or Hoodie with ‘Class of 2020‘ on the front and a design of signatures from their graduating year on the back. This is a unique and practical way to remember their years at Sandhills; one which, we are sure, will be popular. Again, the deadline for Grade 6 Graduation Spirit Wear is Thursday, 31st Oct 2019.

You will find the Grade 6 Graduation Spirit wear using the same link as above. Please ensure you select the Graduation T-shirt/Hoodie item correctly.

Samples (if you require to view sizes) will be available in the main office to try on!

Flyers will be available at the office as well but we would prefer all orders to be placed online with the links provided above.

HALLOWE’EN

On Thursday, October 31st, we will be enjoying a whole school spirit day to recognize the tradition of Halloween.  Through the lens of equity and inclusion, students are welcome to wear their regular clothes, black and orange, or their Halloween costumes to school.

For safety reasons and for the enjoyment by all, students may not wear masks, face paint (some makeup is okay) or carry accessories that may resemble or be used as weapons.  Save these for evening trick-or-treating.

Please note, costumes that represent another person’s culture or religion may be seen as offensive and are therefore not allowed.  For a more detailed understanding of this subject and a list of costumes to avoid, we suggest you read LSPRING’s campaign that educates about cultural appropriation and Halloween costumes.

A few examples of suitable costumes include animals, storybook characters, superheroes, occupations and one-of-a-kind designs.  If wearing a costume, your child should either bring or wear his/her regular clothes underneath, as the spirit day activities will only be for a portion of the day.  For students who do not celebrate Halloween, alternate activities will be provided.

As well, since some of our students have life-threatening allergies to a variety of foods, please do not send in treats/snacks to school.  We also have students who have dietary restrictions because of other medical, religious or cultural reasons. Save treats for your evening fun!

INDIGO FUNDRAISER

We are delighted to share our next Fundraiser with you. Wed, November 13th at the INDIGO location on Fairway Road, Kitchener (6:30 pm to 8:30pm). Sandhills School Council encourages you to partake in some early holiday shopping and help raise money for school initiatives. 20% of all purchases will go towards the school if you tell your check out assistant that you have a student at Sandhills Public School.  As an extra treat for our Sandhills Community, our JUNIOR CHOIR will be performing. Come and cheer on our wonderful Junior Choir and show your support. We will see you there!!

ON YOUR FEET CHALLENGE

During the month of October, the students, staff and participating Sandhills families took part in a challenge to collectively walk 6000 kms, equivalent to the distance across Canada! We are so happy to report that not only did we cross Canada 1 time, we ended up crossing Canada a total of 3 times!! Between October 7th and 24th, we walked and ran 18,337 kms! Way to go Suns!!

Let’s continue the momentum and keep our kid moving!

Tips for Walking To School

  • Be Ready to Walk in the Rain. We won’t melt and walking in the rain is more enjoyable than you might think. The proper gear is important. Choose a waterproof coat and boots. To make sure your child is seen, choose bright colours. Pack a small fold-up umbrella in your child’s backpack so that they are always prepared.
  • It only takes 12-15 minutes to walk 1 km.
  • Teach your child walking skills. Children need to be taught how traffic works. To cross the road, look left then right and left again. Let them practice and tell you what they see.
