Principal’s Update
What a great first month! Students have settled into routines and classroom expectations. Parents and Guardians, I strongly encourage you to engage your student in conversations about school and what they are learning. Questions might be, “Can you explain what you worked on in math today?” or “Did you learn any new vocabulary in French class?” Conversations as such help students consolidate their learning. If at any time, you have any questions or concerns about your student’s education, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teacher.
- Terry Fox Run Update
Terry’s Marathon of Hope took place in 1980 with the simple objective of informing Canadians of the importance of finding a cure for cancer. With fierce determination, he ran an average of 42 kilometres (26 miles) every day for 143 days. Terry was forced to end his run on September 1, 1980 when the cancer spread to his lungs.
Sandhills students participated in their own Terry Fox Run on September 28th. Our very generous students raised $1555.00 for cancer research! Way to go Suns!

- School Council Update
Did you know?
If you dine at Boston Pizza, keep your receipt, and bring it to the school we receive a 10% donation of the value of the receipt. This is a great way to support a local business AND help our fundraising efforts here at Sandhills. Money raised goes to support initiatives that benefit all students. Thanks to Boston Pizza for their ongoing support of Sandhills!
The Loyalty Funding program new to Sandhills this year is one way that you can support Sandhills. This program allows one time purchases or monthly recurring purchases of gift cards for a variety of local businesses. Give gift cards to friends and family or use as a budgeting tool for places you shop at anyway! Everything from groceries to gas is available, so check out www.loyaltyfunding.ca/sandhills.
- Strong Start Volunteers Needed!
Letters, Sounds and Words™ is a 10-week program that targets children in Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1 who need a literacy boost. They are paired with trained community volunteers who go into schools to work one to one with them, playing carefully designed games and activities. The Letters, Sounds and Words program is unique as it was designed to be easily implemented by volunteers in schools, including those with little to no previous experience working with children. If you are interested in volunteering for the Strong Start Program at Sandhills please contact Mrs. Churchill (andrea_churchill@wrdsb.ca) or Mrs. Bible (jeannette_bible@wrdsb.ca).
