  1. Upcoming Trips

Our grade two students will travel to Mountsberg Conservation Area on October 13th. Students will visit the Raptor Center’s Owl Prowl Program.

Our kindergarten students will visit Brantwood Farms on October 28th.  They will learn about farming and the life cycles of apples and pumpkins.

On November 1st, all of our primary students will have the opportunity to visit the KW Symphony.

  1. Pokemon Cards and other treasured possessions

Please remember that the school staff cannot control the use, sharing or trading of toys or cards that are brought from home. Small items, like Pokemon cards, shopkin toys and lego pieces are easily lost in our busy school.  To prevent disappointment, it is best to leave treasured items at home.

  1. Flashing red lights and extended stop arm on school busses means stop!

Last week, the Boards of Trustees of the Waterloo Region District School Board and Waterloo Catholic District School Board separately endorsed a proposal by Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) to install stop-arm cameras on buses transporting students across this region.

Every day across the Region of Waterloo dozens of motorists pass stopped buses. Both Boards endorsed and supported a stop-arm camera pilot project between May 24 and June 30 of this year on six Waterloo Region school buses. During the pilot, a total of 97 vehicles passed buses that displayed flashing lights and extended stop arms. Extrapolated to cover all bus routes across the region, more than 700 vehicles per week drive past buses that have stopped to pick up or drop off students.

This is an unacceptable risk to our children.

Both Boards have written to the Region of Waterloo calling for the use of stop-arm cameras on school buses to allow the Region to efficiently identify and prosecute violators. WRDSB is also partnering with WCDSB and STSWR on a communications campaign from October 11, 2016 for two weeks to promote awareness of the law on stopping for school buses.
