The Department of Canadian Heritage, in celebration and commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Flag of Canada, has provided funding for elementary school programs in 2015. Professionally written lesson plans, projects and online galleries are available for all Canadian students to share their pride of the Canadian flag, their hometowns and their schools.

As part of the Canadian Heritage program a recording session tour to 80 elementary schools across Canada is taking place. Students will be featured on the largest recording of O Canada to date, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary and for a potential world record.

On Wednesday March 11th, Sandhills will be one of  two elementary schools in the Waterloo Region District School Board, chosen to be part of the O Canada recording session tour. The objective is to include all students at our school in a simple music project that both musical and non-musical students can take pride in being part of.  What a wonderful opportunity to show off  our wonderful school, our hometown and celebrate our flag’s 50th anniversary.

Please find more information about the project at www.FlagofCanada.ca and remember to return the permission form to your child’s teacher so that he/she may participate in this commemorative event.
