With our cold Canadian weather, more and more parents are driving their children to school. As a result, we have had visits from a constable from the Waterloo Regional Police and our by-law officer asking us to remind our community of some parking etiquette.
It is important to be considerate of our Sandhills’ neighbours. There have been reports of blocking driveways, parking in driveways or double parking on neighbouring streets so that traffic cannot move. These behaviours can be very frustrating for our neighbours as well as dangerous for our students and community members.
Unfortunately we have no extra parking in our school parking lot before or after school. The risk to students at these times of day is such that we have been monitoring this activity for many years. Please do not persist in dropping children off at the front or back doors in the parking lot as it causes dangerous situations for staff and students and congestion at the driveway as well.
Some tips from our by-law officer:
- There is no parking within 9 m of any intersection.
- There is no parking facing the wrong direction.
- Parking is only allowed, as space permits, on the right side of the road.
- There are streets where you can legally park and walk your child to the playground.
Thank you for helping us keep our students and our community safe.
